The launch of a new partnership between Budgens and local food marketing organisation, A Taste of Sussex, took place last week in the Budgens store in Midhurst.
The partnership has enabled 100 locally sourced products to find their way onto the shelves of a number of Budgens stores around Sussex, with the list including dairy, meat and bakery products.
Food from Britain and SEEDA (South East England Development Agency) both helped with the funding of the development of this partnership.
Point of sale material with the Taste of Sussex logo - the Adonis blue butterfly, found locally on the Sussex Downs - will highlight the products and at launch they will be merchandised both on gondola end and within their respective categories.
Budgens marketing director, Stephanie Rice, said: “This is the latest stage in our roll out of locally sourced food. People increasingly want to support their local community and to ‘buy local’ and this is something we want to encourage as it makes sound commercial sense, too.”
The partnership was also able to provide advice to smaller producers who needed help with issues such as bar coding and packaging.
Steve New, the store manager for Budgens in Midhurst, said: “This way we can also monitor what ranges do well and which ones perhaps need refreshing. There is a lot more flexibility than with the bigger brands as we can get the ranges changed over pretty quickly.”
