Three former Sainsbury executives and one from Safeway have joined Budgens as it shapes up to take on the multiples.
Steve Carter joins from Sainsbury's Egypt operation as senior trading controller for fresh foods, taking charge of all aspects of fresh foods and a team of eight buyers. Carter spent 18 years with Sainsbury, in buying and supply chain roles. He was based in Cairo for the last two years as commercial director for fresh foods.
The Budgens trading team is further strengthened with Kevin Little from Sainsbury as senior buyer for bakery and frozen foods.
Dave Harland joins after 11 years as Sainsbury's senior buyer for ranges which included newspapers and magazines, health and beauty, and petfood.
Elizabeth Budd, formerly of Safeway, becomes senior buyer for consumables, stationery, concessions and selected non-food impulse. Trading director Cliff Goodman said: "These appointments underline our determination to supply our customers with a large range of quality fresh food."
