Burton’s Biscuit Co is looking to tap the peanut butter boom with a new Maryland cookie - and has revealed how NPD has helped turn around sales of the brand.
With peanut butter value sales up 9% year on year [IRI 52 w/e 26 April 2015], Burton’s is next month extending the Maryland Gooeys launched two years ago with a crunchy peanut cookie filled with chocolate goo (rsp: £1.79/160g).
Burton’s said NPD had contributed to Maryland brand sales growing 4.9% year on year to £46.8m, with Gooeys contributing just over £6m [IRI 52w/e 20 June 2015]. Last year, The Grocer reported Maryland sales were down 12% by value [IRI 52w/e 16 August].
