Burts Chips has become the first crisps brand to receive the Red Tractor stamp of approval.
The assurance mark was won for use of potatoes farmed responsibly, processed and packed in the UK, said the Plymouth snacks brand.
The Red Tractor logo will appear on Burts’ 40g bags from next month and 150g packs from September. The first new variants to carry the stamp of approval will be Smoked Crispy Bacon and the limited-edition Fish ‘N’ Chips.
British shoppers’ “increasingly discerning” approach to snacks was driving premiumisation of the sector, said Simon Knight, sales and marketing director at Burts.
“This means the use of high-quality British ingredients is increasingly important, as is the process of preparation as consumers look for responsibly farmed and sourced products with artisan appeal,” he added.
“With the increased focus on traceability and top-class ingredients, products such as Burts Chips with British and regional provenance have come to the forefront. Driven by an increasingly globalised market, it continues to be a strong selling point for our brand.”
