Von Spreckelsen has spent most of his working life in the UK, previously holding senior management positions at Bowater Industries and Bank of America International. He is also the current chairman of Cellec AG in Switzerland and Global Shipping Services in the UK. Von Spreckelsen describes his departure from Budgens as "amicable", a fact borne out be the fact he will continue with the company until the end of April. Martin Hyson has been appointed chief executive with immediate effect as part of a reshuffle of senior management. Hyson is seen as the "natural successor" to von Spreckelsen and the company said it would be "business as normal". But Von Spreckelsen's departure is bound to worry Rewe, the German retail chain and Budgens' largest shareholder with a 28.3% stake in the company. {{NEWS }}
