Waitrose has become the exclusive stockist of the ‘butterfly kiwi’ - a kiwifruit that is twice as big as a normal kiwi and resembles a butterfly when cut open.
The fruit, which is supplied by Greencell and grown in Southern Italy, went on sale on Wednesday, priced at 90p each. Waitrose buyer Greg Sehringer said it had a sweeter taste than normal kiwis.
“This is a UK first and we’re excited our customers get to try it before anyone else,” he added.
