Of this, roughly £84,000 will be needed to service three Waitrose stores in the charging zone, £100,000 for the department stores division, and up to £80,000 for cars entering the city, the group predicts. All the partnership's commercial vehicles have been registered on the automatic fleet scheme, whereby fleet owners can build up credit with Transport for London.
Safeway trucks supplying stores at the Barbican and in Bloomsbury will be exempt because they run on compressed natural gas, said a spokeswoman. The company is also considering introducing CNG vehicles for managers driving in central London.
Londis said it would have to pay about £10,000 a year.
