Glenfiddich owner William Grant & Sons is looking to boost the profile of its rum brands by hiring Calum Fraser as its UK rum specialist.
Fraser’s responsibilities will include “building brand advocacy and bridging communication” with bars, restaurants, retailers and media for the likes of OVD Rum and Wood’s 100 Old Navy Rum. His predecessor, Stephen Rutherford, moved roles in August to become UK ambassador for Glenfiddich.
Previously general manager of The Finnieston Bar & Restaurant in Glasgow, Fraser had “a wealth of experience and an excellent reputation in the on-trade” said William Grant senior brand manager Katy Emami. “His passion for the industry and abundance of drinks knowledge makes him the perfect fit to work across OVD and Wood’s.”
UK rum sales are on the up, hitting £991m for the nine months to the end of September 2017, according to the Wine & Spirit Trade Association, which said sales over past five years were up about 38% on volumes up 18%.
