Camelot Group is urging retailers large and small to get behind the relaunch of Lotto in October.
The national lottery operator revealed in January this year that it planned to double the price of a ticket for the main draw game from £1 to £2 in the autumn as part of a relaunch that would also see bigger prize payouts to players.
It revealed this week that the relaunch would take place on 5 October. It will offer 1,000 guaranteed £20,000 prizes and a £10m jackpot for the first two Saturdays.
Camelot Group sales director Duncan Malyon said 30,000 retailers had been contacted about the plans this week and the response had been “overwhelmingly positive”. Nearer the time, retailers will also be sent “significant” point-of-sale material. “This is an ideal time to land new customers,” Malyon added.
It is the first time since the lottery launched in November 1994 that the price of a ticket has been increased.
The payout for matching three numbers will increase from £10 to £25, while jackpots will also increase - to about £5m on Saturdays and £2.5m on Wednesdays.
