Michael Peacock, former chairman of wholesaler Nurdin & Peacock, has died.
Peacock was 73 and had worked in the grocery industry for 36 years, always within Nurdin & Peacock. He was the fifth generation of his family to run the wholesaler, which was established in 1810. He first joined the company in 1954 and took over as chairman in 1980.
During his time with the company, Nurdin & Peacock grew from a provisions wholesaler to a nationwide C&C operator with annual sales of £1.6bn before it was bought by Booker in 2002.
He retired in 1990 and pursued charitable aims through the Peacock Trust.
