C&C Group has expanded its Magners brand into the spiders – spirits ciders – category with a variant containing Irish whiskey.
Rolling out from 5 February to Asda stores, Magners with Irish Whiskey will be sold in single 500ml bottles that each contain 25ml of whiskey.
The number of products in the spirits cider category has been growing for a few years, following the success of drinks that blend beer and spirits.
Early launches in the spiders category included Brothers Cider’s Perro Loco tequila and lemon-flavoured cider containing agave nectar, and Hi Spirits’ Manzana Loca cider with tequila and lime. More recently, SHS Drinks has rolled out Orwell’s, a 5.5% abv amaretto-flavoured cider.
“Magners has been at the forefront of cider innovations since it revolutionised the cider category in the nineties with its over-ice serve, and now we are introducing another game changer,” said C&C Group customer marketing head Ed Shoebridge. “Consumers’ appetite for new flavours in cider keeps growing and we believe our new drink will offer a unique flavour both for whiskey lovers and cider lovers looking for something new.”
