Candy Kittens has become the first UK sugar confectionery brand to go B Corp.
The upmarket vegan sweets brand has joined the ranks of businesses to gain the accreditation, which awards brands placing social, environmental and ethical concerns at the heart of their business, including Tenzing, BrewDog and Vita Coco.
The brand’s co-founder Jamie Laing said the brand had launched in 2021 “with a clear mission to shake up the sweets game”.
“Ten years later, we’ve seen first-hand the good, the bad and the ugly of the business world. Simply making the best sweets is no longer enough.”
Going forward the brand was “determined to put people and the planet first every step of the way”, he added. “B Corp is a seal of approval that we are meeting the highest possible standards of social and environmental performance, and our commitment to use this business as a force for good.”
Candy Kittens did not reveal its B Corp score, but to win the certification, businesses need to score 80 points or higher across a range of metrics in a B Impact Assessment.
It follows the brand having gone fully vegan in January 2022, when it switched up the recipe of its Eton Mess flavour, which previously contained beeswax, to a new formulation.
As well as being fully vegan, the brand achieved carbon neutral status in 2021.
