Vegan confectionery brand Candy Kittens is trialling compostable packaging.
The plant-based pouches – made using cellulose, sugar cane and wood pulp – would break down into “non-toxic, natural elements” within six months in home compost, it said.
Additionally, they were carbon neutral through “gold-standard offsetting” – for every pouch made, the equivalent weight in ocean plastic was collected from Indonesia and the Philippines, claimed Candy Kittens.
The pouches have rolled out via the brand’s webstore and will be available at Co-op festival stores at Glastonbury, Latitude, Kendal Calling, Leeds, Reading and Creamfields this summer (rsp: £3/140g).
They contain its newly launched, rainbow-coloured Love sweets, and feature a limited-edition design by illustrator Ruby Taylor.
It comes after the brand made its entire product range vegan after reformulating its Eton Mess sweets earlier this year.
The posh confectioner recently teamed up with BrewDog to launch a pink beer, inspired by its Raspberry and Guava Gourmies sweets.
