Latin American condiment brand Capsicana is extending into cooking sauces.
The range, rolling into Whole Foods Market and indies over the next three weeks, comprises four traditional chilli-based recipes in two-serve packs (rsp: £2.29): Peruvian lemon; Brazilian coconut; and two Mexican sauces, garlic and honey.
The quartet would tap increasing demand for Latin flavours, said founder Ben Jackson, adding the aim was to mirror the success of Latin American restaurants.
“The retail market is seriously lagging behind compared to what’s happening with Latin American food in the streets of our cities – whether it’s street food festivals, gourmet food trucks or high street restaurants,” he said.
The category had suffered from a lack of innovation and “commitment to authenticity”, he claimed.
“Most of the competition is serving up less distinctive flavours designed for family’s and children’s palates to some extent, while we are embracing real Latin flavours and not making them safe for Northern Europeans,” said Jackson.
The new range – manufactured in the UK - debuts a new “more contemporary and bright” look for the brand that will be introduced across Capsicana’s existing chilli sauce condiments later this summer.
“We’re bang on trend and are committed to developing more Latin-themed products - this is just the start,” said Jackson.
