Carrefour has teamed up with weather risk management specialists Metnext to factor weather data into its sales forecasts.
Metnext will provide Carrefour with forecasts every week, covering each individual store. Initially, the forecasts will predict demand for hundreds of weather- sensitive food products before moving on to non-food. The system will focus on boosting category sales, optimising logistics systems and ensuring stock.
“Carrefour is looking to integrate weather factors throughout its product range on a national scale. Climate now forms part of a store’s forecasting,” said Carrefour’s director of forecasting, Claude Amice.
