Jygsaw Brands has modernised the packaging of McEwan's ale, marking the final phase of a review of its heritage drinks brands, embarked upon when S&N set up its joint venture with Jygsaw in January 2008.
The Staines-based company, which handles the marketing and sales for S&N's heritage brands, will roll out the updated design of the premium Scottish canned ale across retailers next week. In a bid to improve shelf standout and appeal to a broader range of consumers, the McEwan's cavalier had been given a bolder design and "a more cheerful expression", said the company. A thistle motif has been added in reference to the brand's 150-year-old Scottish heritage.
The update follows overhauls for Jygsaw's Woodpecker and Scrumpy Jack this summer. "In uncertain economic times consumers come back to heritage brands they can trust," said marketing director John Edwards.
