Fans of TV chef Antony Worrall Thompson are in shock after the TV chef was arrested for shoplifting.
Worrall Thompson was reportedly caught helping himself to cheese and wine at the Henley-on-Thames branch of Tesco last Friday (6 January).
He had been under suspicion for some time, according to The Sun, with store staff noticing him failing to pay for low-value items on as many as five separate occasions.
Worrall Thompson had been using a self-scanning till when the latest incident occurred. He was spotted on CCTV, a camera having been installed after staff became suspicious.
The chef, who was forced to close four failing restaurants in 2009, was stopped by store guards as he attempted to leave. He was later cautioned by Thames Valley Police.
“Thames Valley Police arrested a 60-year-old man from High Wycombe following a report of shoplifting offences in Tesco, Reading Road, Henley-on-Thames,” the force said in a statement.
“The man has been issued with a formal caution for these offences.”
Tesco said only that the incident was “a matter for the police”.
