Celebrity chef Simon Rimmer has created bottled beers to be matched with steak, chicken and curry.

Rimmer, who presents Channel 4 show Sunday Brunch and produces the vegetarian Si Meat-Free Cuisine range with Symington’s, has developed the three bottled beers with brewer Robinsons.

The chef sampled a range of Robinsons’ ales to shortlist his preferred taste and colour before deciding on three distinctive styles to go with steak, chicken and curry. The back of each bottle will feature a recipe to complement each beer.

According to the brewer, the Beer to go with Chicken uses Amarillo citrus hop and ends with a crisp lemon finish; the Beer to go with Steak is a red ale with toffee and roasted biscuity malts; and the Beer to go with Curry is a craft lager brewed with rice and Stellar and Cascade hops that is “crisp and clean” with hints of lemongrass and lime. The three beers will be rolling out to retailers from April.

“Every bloke wants to create his own perfect pint… I’m the luckiest bloke in the world because I get to create three,” said Rimmer. “Not only can beer be used as a key ingredient in a wide range of recipes, it is also a great accompaniment to enjoy alongside our favourite dishes, complementing and bringing out the best flavours in our food as the world’s best wines do” “The subtleties of beer are perfect for complex food matching.”

The beer is being made at Robinsons’ Unicorn Brewery in Stockport, where it also produces ales including Old Tom and newer brands Dizzy Blonde and Build A Rocket Boys.

“We are delighted to partner Simon Rimmer – not only does he genuinely enjoy a good pint of cask ale, but his target audience comfortably fit the profile of our core customers,” said Robinsons brand manager John Robinson. “This new range is moving beer into a different arena; and for the first time is designed for the consumer to specifically enjoy with food.”
