Chapel Down has hired Louan Mouton to be its new chief financial officer.
Mouton joins the English winemaker from Typhoo Tea, where he was CFO for a period of just under 18 months.
Prior to this he was group finance director at Fever-Tree, from 2017 to 2023.
Mouton was “a chartered accountant with significant experience in consumer goods organisations”, said Chapel Down.
He will replace Rob Smith, who will step down after Chapel Down’s full-year results, expected in early April 2025.
“We are delighted to have appointed Louan, who has an excellent track record of leading cross-functional teams through significant growth and transformation in publicly traded and private international businesses,” said Chapel Down chairman Martin Glenn. “He is a dynamic leader of high-performing finance teams and I am confident that, alongside our new CEO James Pennefather, he will continue the delivery of Chapel Down’s development and growth.”
Mouton added: “I am excited to be joining Chapel Down as it enters the next phase of its growth for customers and shareholders. The company has a clear and compelling vision and I look forward to leveraging my recent experience at both Fever-Tree and Typhoo Tea to deliver it.”
He joins Chapel Down at a critical juncture. In October, the supplier took itself off the market following a strategic review that concluded there were “no transactions that would create superior long-term shareholder value” than its current position as “a standalone AIM-listed company”.
Full-year sales at Chapel Down for the year ended 31 December 2024, meanwhile, declined by 5% to £16.3m. The winemaker blamed challenges in the off-trade for the slide.
James Pennefather, previously CEO at The Lakes Distillery Company, was appointed as its new CEO in December, replacing Andrew Carter.
