Anchor Cheddar is trying to save the cheese sandwich from extinction, by hitting the road in a giant sandwich-lookalike bus as part of the #getonboard campaign, designed to boost cheddar’s popularity across the nation.
”The Cheese Sandwich Needs You” tour kicks off in Plymouth on 6 February, before heading to over 100 different locations, including city centres and supermarkets. Anchor’s team on board will give away hundreds of thousands of cheddar sandwiches to members of the public, whilst waving flags and using loud speakers to drum up support for the campaign.
Anchor’s efforts follow its recent discovery that 55% of British adults had not eaten a cheese sandwich within the last week, when questioned for a YouGov survey.
“The cheese sandwich has declined in popularity over the last few years and we are on a mission to bring it back,” said Anchor Cheddar brand manager Louise Thornton.
“The Cheese Sandwich Needs You tour gives us the opportunity to not only sample of hundreds of thousands of people across the UK, increasing awareness of the great taste of Anchor Cheddar, but also gives us a talking point which the whole nation can get behind.”
Anchor will also be launching an on-pack promotion, offering shoppers a chance to win an Anchor sandwich tin, to support its campaign, at the end of March.
