The regional winners have been announced for this year’s Retail Cheese Awards organised by Dairy Crest in association with The Grocer.
In the category for specialist independents, Valvona & Crolla in Edinburgh, Deli on the Square, Ludlow, Shropshire, and Larners of Holt in Holt, Norfolk were the regional winners.
In the other category, for multiples, co-ops and symbol groups, Sainsbury’s store at Harrogate, North Yorkshire, Somerfield at Chesterfield, Derbyshire and Tesco at Shepton Mallet, Somerset were the victors.
All six go forward to an awards ceremony at London’s Café Royal on September 7 where the national winner in each category will be announced.
The judges looked at the ranges available in stores, the quality of displays and staff knowledge.
The standard of entries across the board was so high the judges made a number of highly commended awards.
These comprised: four Morrisons stores at Belle Vale, Liverpool, Mayo Avenue, Bradford, Derby and Rhyl; Tesco, Pitsea, Essex; McNees of Crieff, Perthsire, Scotland; and Country Cheeses, Tavistock, Devon.
