Background



A book on cake decoration awoke Louis Barnett's interest in cake making and working with Belgian chocolate. He first made products for family and friends, and then began to make a business out of it.

Education



Chokolit was established in 2005 but Barnett has been making products since 2003 when he was 13 years old. Although he left school at the age of 11, Barnett has an IQ of 134 and has put his home education to good use. "I don't miss school. People don't understand how formulaic it is, and that makes self-motivation very difficult," he says. "Working from home is much more inspiring." The business means Barnett no longer has time for his schoolwork but he insists that his work requires a similar approach to education. "Someone once asked me if I missed science, but making chocolate is an extremely complicated science," he says.

Products



Chokolit has started small and currently sells a limited range, including an 80g chocolate box filled with chocolate mints, which has an rsp of £2.49, but it intends to produce a 250-300g box filled with chocolates with flavours such as raspberry cream, lemon fondant and violet cream.
