Chorizo with Rioja wine pitched to UK buyers

A Spanish artisan meat producer is pitching a chorizo that contains Rioja to UK retailers.

Chorizo con Vino is made by Martinez Somalo in the Rioja region, and contains 10% wine. However, the alcohol evaporates during the maturing process, so the chorizo is not subject to age restrictions.

It launched in Spain last summer. “We are going to launch to the UK market as soon as possible,” said export manager Guillermo Barrachina, adding the company was currently presenting to UK buyers.

The chorizo comes in a 200g ring. A UK retail price has not yet been set.

Martinez Somalo’s Chorizo Sarta won two gold stars in the Great Taste Awards 2011.
