The City of London Distillery is planning expansion overseas after securing a ‘significant investment’ from Halewood Wines & Spirits.
The micro-distiller, which counts Christopher Wren and Square Mile gins in its portfolio, would continue to operate independently, said Halewood. The Liverpool-based business would not disclose the level of funding but added the deal would see the London gin-maker benefit from support in marketing and promotions.
“Being the only gin distillery in the Square Mile has given us a loyal customer-base since we opened in 2012,” said the distillery’s MD and master distiller Jonathan Clark.
“The Halewood investment now gives us the opportunity not only to continue experimenting and perfecting our existing gin portfolio here in the City, but also to expand our reach throughout the rest of the UK and internationally.”
Stewart Hainsworth, Halewood group CEO, added: “Jonathan is an incredibly high-calibre distiller with a distinctive offering in a busy market. With our focus on craft, Jonathan’s unique proposition and passion for traditional high-grade distilling caught our eye and we’re looking forward to supporting him in expanding his premium portfolio.”
Last month, Lake District brewer Hawkshead agreed a ‘far-reaching’ investment deal with Halewood.
