CJ Lang and Son has appointed Colin McLean as its CEO as the Scottish Spar retailer and distributor shakes up its executive team with a raft of new appointments.
McLean joins to bring strategic and operational leadership and help Dundee-based CJ Lang explore “new avenues of business development” and boost growth.
He will also direct the executive board and will meet all stakeholders in due course.
McLean brings extensive multi-channel retail experience to his new role, having spent 22 years working as a commercial main board director.
He previously worked as Scotmid Co-operative COO for 13 years.
He began his career at Marks & Spencer, where he quickly rose to senior store management and buying roles. McLean has also worked at Boots, Littlewoods, Argos, Dixons and WH Smith.
Ex-Heineken finance director Craig Tedford will also join as financial director, while United Wholesale head of retail Mike Leonard will replace Bill Mair as sales director. John Connolly will become company secretary after 13 years as HR controller at CJ Lang, while John Leitch will step down as distribution director.
This follows the retirement of managing director Scott Malcolm in January after 31 years at the company.
David Lamb replaced Malcolm as interim MD to provide operational leadership for the company while CJ Lang recruited a CEO, and will support McLean in operational matters where necessary. He also retains his duties as trading director.
