CJ Lang has partnered with retail forecasting company Relex to upgrade its in-store and depot ordering system.

The new AI system will replace the retailer’s current sales-based ordering process.

The Relex rollout is the “largest investment in tech” the company has made to date, according to CJ Lang’s IT director Graham Murdoch.

It uses availability forecasts based on historical and day-to-day data supplied by retailers.

The first trial will start in mid-October in three pilot stores: Crosshouse, Stonehouse and Garthamlock.

They will be followed by Kincorth, Culloden, Orleans Place, Erskine, Thornhill and Abronhill in November.

Implementing Relex will help with forecasting and ordering in the depot and across stores, making sure “we have the right stock in the right place and at the right time”, said Murdoch at the annual Spar Scotland trade show last month.

“Relex is the largest-ever investment the company has made on tech to date,” he added. “Thanks to the new solution, it will be easier for all our colleagues to manage their stores more efficiently”.

Addressing store managers, central operations director Sonya Harper said: “We are investing heavily on tech to help you be successful. We encourage all store managers to get ready, and be prepared for Relex.”

Relex already works with leading food and drink companies including Lidl, M&S, Finsbury Food Group, and Valeo Foods.

The tech rolled out in Spar Northern Ireland in collaboration with Henderson Foodservice earlier this year.
