CJ Lang has rolled out anti-food waste app Too Good To Go across all 107 company-owned stores.
It follows a trial, which kicked off in December 2020, with three stores. During the pilot period, the duo saved over 7,200 meals from going to waste, which equates to 17 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
The partnership works by allowing customers to purchase bags of surplus stock from their nearest Spar store via the app, which is close to the end of its shelf life. They then collect the so-called ‘magic bags’ at an allotted time.
“As part of our fight against food waste and in alliance with our digital strategy, we are delighted to be in partnership with Too Good To Go to reduce food wastage across all our company-owned stores,” said CJ Lang central operations director Sonya Harper.
“Be sure to download the app and buy a magic bag from your local Spar Scotland store. The Too Good To Go app allows users to search for a store taking part in the scheme, connecting local Spar stores with both new and old customers passionate about preventing food waste.”
