Scottish wholesaler CJ Lang has sold its cash and carry and foodservice business in Penrith, Cumbria, to fellow Landmark Cash & Carry member Peter Lowrie & Co.
The deal, which was for an undisclosed sum, leaves CJ Lang with four cash and carry depots trading as Martex, at Dundee, Ayr, Cupar and Aberdeen.
CJ Lang wholesale director Dick Smith said: “The geographical location of Penrith in relation to our headquarters in Dundee put a huge strain on our distribution facility and senior management time.
“The sale of the Penrith business will be beneficial to our Scottish customers and staff. Lowrie's are fellow Landmark members, well-established in the North of England and have positive plans which will benefit the Penrith depot.”
In addition to its cash and carry business, CJ Lang is the Spar wholesaler for Scotland, and is also the largest independent retail group with more than 70 company owned Spar stores.
