How did you get where you are today?

Farmhouse Fare grew from my outside catering company to the premium pudding company it is today from a combination of employing and working with a superb, focused and loyal team. In the early days I was also a 'PC' - persistent caller - which paid off because I gained our initial listing in Booths. I also never compromised on my product ethos of creating top quality puddings by using the finest ingredients and traditional methods. In short, it's down to the three Ps - people, passion and puddings.

What was the best decision you've made in your career and why?

My best decision was to work for myself and create my own company. I have always been independent and like doing things my own way, so it has worked out well and continues to do so.

Who do you most admire in the grocery industry? I admire Edwin Booth, chairman of northern supermarket chain Booths. He really does make a difference.

Do you have a mentor and how have they helped you in your career?

Tim Bullough, the finance director here. He has kept my feet on the ground and has also been, and remains, a constant support since the early days of the company.

What is the most important piece of information you have ever been told?

"Helen, it is all down to confidence and attitude!"

What is the most rewarding part of your job? It has to be seeing Farmhouse Fare's puddings being enjoyed by people of all ages up and down the country. It has also been a rewarding experience to evolve my products to cater for their desires.

What is the one thing that you could not do your job without?

Coffee - served in my favourite cup!

If you could start your career again, what would you do differently and why?

I would not change a thing. I am not the type of person to regret a decision; I just keep moving forward.

What advice would you give to someone starting out in the industry today?

Listen to everybody, but always go with your instincts. Don't be scared to do your own thing.

What do you like doing when you are not working?

I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, and having fun.

Where do you hope to be in five years' time? I would like to be doing the same fantastic job here at Farmhouse Fare, with a much larger and even more successful company.
