The Co-operative Group has reduced the weight of its own-label wine bottles in a bid to save 725 tonnes of glass and 556 tonnes of CO2 a year.
The weight of varietal bottles has dropped 14% to 356g, while the weight for entry level has fallen 11% to 320g, which The Co-op claimed was the lightest a Bordeaux-style bottle could be made.
The bottles have been rolled out in collaboration with Kingsland Wine & Spirits, which bottles The Co-op own-label wines in Manchester.
