The Co-operative Group is placing small electrical goods alongside its food offer for the first time.
Trials are being conducted at the retailer’s Leek, Holmfirth, Mablethorpe, Maryport and Irlams O’ Th’ Height stores.
‘Tech bays’ have been introduced displaying iPods and DAB radios, which can be bought in store.
A new online ordering point that will allow customers to browse the full online electrical range, place an order and pay for goods in one transaction is also being developed.
Kay Thornborough, store manager at Irlams O’ Th’ Height, said the range had proved popular with consumers.
“Sales in the first week were more than treble the previous electrical range, beating budget, and are continuing to grow,” she said. “With internet prices available in store, it’s proving to be a great success.”
