The Co-op is feeling the love with a new Valentine’s Day-focused television advert that kicks off today.

A second ad, focusing on breakfast, will air from 21 February.

The ads show how people come together to make the most of mealtimes.

They kick off the convenience retailer’s strategy to create ‘a year of eating together’ for its members and customers, emphasising the society’s role in local communities and in providing “fairly priced, high-quality, ethically sourced and tasty products” from 2,600 shops.

“Our new advert shows how food brings friends and family together at mealtimes and, with our research revealing that almost half of us say eating with others is an activity that most brings us happiness and a sense of togetherness, we’re excited about telling stories which highlight how food is central to socialising at the kitchen table,” said Co-op customer director Alison Jones.

The Valentine’s ad will feature the Co-op Valentine’s Meal Deal that will be in store until 20 February, comprising one main and two sides, or one side and one dessert for £6.

Mains include Co-op Ranch Steaks (300g), Co-op Irresistible Lasagne Al Forno (700g) and Co-op Irresistible Mushroom Wellingtons (423g).

Sides are Co-op Irresistible Chips, Co-op Irresistible Mash, Co-op Irresistible Balsamic Vinegar & Roast Garlic Flatbread (230g) and Co-op Asparagus Tips (100g).

The deserts include Co-op Irresistible Choc Melt in Middle, Co-op Irresistible Raspberry and Champagne Tortes (117g), and Co-op Strawberries Punnet.
