Oxford, Swindon & Gloucester Co-op has launched a scheme to drive up the number of locally sourced products available in stores.
Dubbed Local Harvest, the scheme has been launched at 20 stores with over 100 products from 11 suppliers in the society's trading area. More lines will be added as the scheme gains momentum.
Products will be clearly labelled with source details, and can be identified on shelf by a new logo, said group general manager, membership and corporate marketing, Peter Couchman.
"Local Harvest will boost the rural economy, increase the availability of local goods instore and enable shoppers to understand where their food comes from."
The scheme has been developed in partnership with local farmers and producers and the co-op movement's buying arm Co-operative Retail Trading Group.
Currently the Local Harvest range includes beers, ice cream, bacon and organic cereals, with new fresh fruit and vegetable lines set to follow shortly.
