Northern Ireland Co-op has acquired two stores as part of its expansion programme.
It is close to completing legal proceedings on a further two stores and is "seriously considering" another eight".
Situated in Lisburn and Castlederg, the former Costcutter and Nisa outlets have combined sales space of 7,000 sq ft and will be converted to a Welcome and a Market Town store.
The buys take the total portfolio to 32, consisting of two superstores, 12 Market Town and 17 Welcome stores.
"The vibrant NI independent retail sector offers considerable opportunity for development through acquisitions," said Paul Slocombe, Northern Ireland Co-op chief officer. "We have no limit to the number of businesses we want to acquire."
