In April, Ann and Stephen Smallman had the week's holiday of a lifetime in Jamaica and it was all thanks to The Grocer Club.
Last November, Jane entered a Grocer Club competition run in conjunction with Jacob's Bakery's Mrs Peek's Christmas puddings, and said she was overwhelmed and stunned when she received the telephone call telling her she had won.
She said: "It was a perfect week. We open the shop 364 days a year and when we go on holiday we like to chill out and there can be no better place to do that than the Caribbean Club at Runaway Bay."
Ann regularly enters competitions, but is not normally the lucky type. She said: "I have won a list of consolation prizes as long as your arm. I had previously won a couple of first prizes, but the trip to Jamaica was something very special. The Grocer Club is great for independents. Keep up the good work."
The Smallmans runs a 700 sq ft Londis store at Ampleforth which trades from 6.30am to 9pm seven days a week.
