Confex has appointed Martin Williams, the former Landmark MD and a past chairman of the Federation of Wholesale Distributors, chairman of the privately-owned wholesale buying group.
He is the organisation’s first chairman since the retirement of Julien Loffet, its founder, 10 years ago.
“We have not felt anyone with a high enough calibre has been in a position to replace him until now,” a spokeswoman said.
Williams brings 43 years of experience in food and drink to the £2bn turnover group - 35 of them in the wholesale sector
He spent 33 years at Landmark - 15 of them as managing director - and chaired the FWD for three years up to his planned semi-retirement at the end of 2016. He is currently an associate director of the FWD and has his own consultancy business, Martin Williams Consultancy.
Williams said he looked forward to helping the Confex team drive the business on to become “even bigger and better, enabling their members to thrive and prosper in this dynamic market”.
Confex managing director Nicky White said: “Martin will no doubt help to raise the profile of Confex within wholesale while also being an invaluable asset in helping to mould Confex strategy to ensure long-term growth and sustainability for Confex and its wholesale members.”
