A Chilean winery has become the first in the world to achieve global carbon neutral delivery status. The Cono Sur Winery, which produces the Cono Sur and Isla Negra ranges, is now permitted to use the CarbonNeutral mark on its exports, after stringent assessment by climate consulting organisation the CarbonNeutral Company. Cono Sur general manager Adolfo Hurtado said the winery has been working on reducing its carbon footprint for nearly 20 years. "In 1988 we started working with a clean action plan, and a natural and integrated management of vineyards was implemented," he said. "Today the big issue is climate change and it's our duty to support the means to reverse and prevent it. That is why we decided to take the next step with the CarbonNeutral Company." Companies gain permission to use the mark only when their global warming emissions have been measured and balanced through greenhouse gas emissions reduction projects.
