Company secretary and director of Spar, Philip Marchant, has been appointed to the newly created role of corporate development director.
Marchant has been at Spar for 24 years and is also company secretary to the Spar National Guild Board.
Jerry Marwood, MD of Spar,
said that the new title better reflected Marchant’s position within the business as he was now responsible for all HR activities at central office.
Marchant’s remit has been extended to cover business organisation and he will co-ordinate Spar’s activity with outside trade bodies such as the British Retail Consortium.
Spar has also appointed Tony Aram to the new position of foodservice strategy manager. Marwood said food to go was a potential growth area for Spar and Aram’s appointment was to give strategic direction and tactical support to grow sales and margins.
