Costco has confirmed it is targeting Spain and France as it looks to ramp up its presence in European markets.
The wholesaling giant, which is a dominant force in the US and has 25 depots in the UK, will open its first warehouse in Seville, Spain, this spring.
Another warehouse is also set to open in Madrid, though the company has not confirmed an opening date.
“I can confirm that Costco will be opening its first Spanish warehouse in Seville in the spring of 2014,” said UK MD Steve Pappas.
He added that Costco believed Continental Europe offered a good opportunity for international expansion, and that the company was also continuing to work on establishing a presence in France.
According to local media reports, Costco will open its first depot in the country in 2015.
Last week, Costco reported international sales up 8% in the four weeks ended 2 February, against the same period last year. US sales were up 5%.
