Premium dog food start up Cotswold Raw is chasing £250,000 from the crowd to expand its range, increase production and develop a cat recipe to double its customer base.
The manufacturer is giving away a 10% stake in the business to raise the cash from a crowdfunding campaign on Crowdcube, launched today.
Launched at Moreton in Marsh country show in September 2015, Cotswold now produces more than three tonnes of sausages and mince for the raw dog food product each week at its 7,000 sq ft facility.
It supplies 90 independent retailers – with listings at bigger supermarkets to follow – and sales for 2017/18 are forecast to hit £1m.
The business has raised close to £600,000 in private funding to date, used to build the brand and production facilities.
As well as expanding the range, increasing production and diversifying into cat food, Cotswold will use the latest fundraising round to establish distribution hubs across the UK and source bespoke freezers to showcase its products in store.
“Pet humanisation is the popular movement which recognises that dogs are less pets and more integral members of the family, a thought-provoking realisation that encourages health-conscious pet owners to apply the same sensible choices to their pet’s food as they would their own,” the business said in the Crowdcube pitch.
“Our aim was to create a raw pet food product that is easy to deploy, provides genuine ‘foodie’ appeal and facilitates portion control.”
Cotswold added it was focused on using human-grade ingredients (meat, bones, seasonal veg and herbs), local sourcing, ingredient traceability and long-term countryside sustainability.
