Tesco has agreed to restrict noisy centre deliveries in Richmond upon Thames after a year of strong community opposition.
Tesco Convenience chief executive Colin Holmes has assured the local council it would only deliver between specific hours set out by council leader Gillian Norton.
In a letter, Norton told Holmes that after a year of ongoing negotiations with Tesco, the concerns of residents and councillors had still not been adequately addressed.
She specified that delivery times for the four stores concerned - a Metro in Teddington and three Express stores in Kew, St Margarets and Hampton Hill - were to be either between 7am and 9pm or 8.30am to 8pm on Monday to Saturday, with shorter hours on Sundays and bank holidays.
In Holmes' response to the letter this week, seen by The Grocer, he said that Tesco's distribution teams had been “instructed that they must adhere to the agreed delivery times”. However, while he would put an end to overlapping deliveries, he was currently unable to cut down the number of daily deliveries.
