Tyrrells is one of a number of food and drink businesses celebrating success in this year’s Queen’s Awards for Enterprise.
The premium crisp brand was one of 152 firms recognised for their business achievements – among them mixer drinks maker Fever-Tree, dairy producer Coombe Castle, and confectioner Bon Bon Buddies.
“The Queen’s Awards highlight our strong entrepreneurial streak and the excellent businesses we have up and down the country who are growing, creating jobs, making a valuable contribution to the economy and helping us to compete in the global race. I applaud each and every one of the winners,” said business and energy minister Michael Fallon.
116 companies received Queen’s Awards for international trade; 27 for innovation; and nine for sustainable development. Eight individuals were given awards for their work in encouraging entrepreneurship.
The winners will be able to use the Queen’s Award Emblem in their advertising and packaging for up to five years. The awards are backed by the Department for Business, Skills and Innovation, which praised the quality of the field this year, with 25% of entrants receiving an award.

Tyrrells’ award noted the company’s success as an exporter, trading with 30 countries and showing overseas sales growth of 113%. “We’re thrilled with our Queens Award for Enterprise. Our success internationally proves that our entertaining, English brand character resonates well with a global audience,” said David Milner, Tyrrells CEO.
Bon Bon Buddies (pictured), which makes licensed character confectionery featuring brands such as Disney Princess, Cars and Minnie and Mickey Mouse, was also given the nod for its overseas success.
“Winning a Queen’s Award for Enterprise is an honour for the company and great recognition of our continued success and sales in the overseas confectionary markets as well as recognition of the exceptional work of our team,” said company founder and MD Chris Howarth.
Dairy producer Coombe Castle was also singled out for its export achievements, having entered eight new markets in the last three years.
“Receiving a Queen’s Award recognises the effort and dedication of our people and the loyalty shown to us by suppliers and customers in over 40 countries,” said Coombe Castle’s managing director Darren Larvin.
Other winners included distribution company Sun Mark; food supplement maker Vitabiotics; Speymalt Whisky Distributors; the Innis & Gunn Brewing Company; and ADF Milking.
