Increasing signs of stability in the dairy markets over the past fortnight have led Dairy Crest to reverse its previously announced milk price reduction for July.
The processor announced this week it would hold its core Davidstow price at 21.72ppl (rather than drop it by 1ppl), in order to “reflect the positivity in the markets”, and noted there had been ”some signs” of stability over the past fortnight which Dairy Crest ”wanted to respond to as soon as possible”.
The move was welcomed by the Dairy Crest Direct dairy producers organisation as a positive step.
“We are pleased that Dairy Crest will not implement the price reduction for July,” said DCD chairman Steve Bone. ”We have been asking Dairy Crest to consider their position and this is a positive step. Both parties agree that working together to deliver stability for our farmers is imperative.”
It comes as the likes of Wyke Farms, Dairy Partners and Glanbia Cheese all increased prices for July, and a week after Meadow Foods announced a price increase to reflect the changing market conditions.
