Dairy UK has appointed Dr Judith Bryans as its new chief executive, replacing Jim Begg.
Bryans – a nutrition scientist by training – has been director of the Dairy Council since 2006. She will take up her new role on 1 October, following Begg’s retirement.
Dairy UK chairman Billy Keane said Bryans was held “in the highest regard” in the dairy industry in the UK and beyond. “The board takes the view that Judith has the skill and determination to build on its successes to date, and she will be an excellent successor to Jim Begg, who has done so much for the industry over the last 40 years.”
Keane added Bryans’ background in nutrition would stand her in good stead given that public health concerns would become an increasingly important part of Dairy UK’s work. “In that respect, there is no one better than Judith to bring these skills to the table,” he added.
Bryans said she looked forward to working with the industry to represent the interests of dairy. “Dairy UK has achieved a lot since its creation and has a strong future,” she said. “The industry is not without its challenges, but much can be achieved by an effective cross-industry body.”
A successor to Bryans at The Dairy Council will be appointed in due course.
