The founder of Food Brands Group Brian Chapman has retired following the sale of the company to Swedish coffee roaster Löfbergs last summer.

Chapman founded Food Brands Group in 1983 and soon launched the premium coffee brand Percol, which went on to become one of the first coffee brands to gain Fairtrade certification.

The company, which also makes Rocket Fuel coffee and has a turnover of £8.5m, was sold in June to Löfbergs, which was already one of its main suppliers.

Food Brands Group’s sales director David Brooks has taken over from Chapman as the company’s new managing director.

Brooks, who previously worked in sales for ethical tea brand Clipper, said he was looking forward to building on Chapman’s legacy.

“Percol is the UK’s most innovative ethical beacon brand, synonymous with Fairtrade and listed widely in UK grocery,” he said.

“I, and the fantastic team here, look forward to building on the great platform built by the founder Brian Chapman. Our aim is to offer consumers the world’s most adventurous, best-tasting coffees.”
