Conviviality Retail has appointed Argos’s chief operating officer David Robinson as managing director.
The appointment is part of a restructuring process by Conviviality following the £200m acquisition of Matthew Clark in September.
Conviviality group chief executive Diana Hunter previously carried out a managing director’s function as part of her wider remit.
The Matthew Clark acquisition has also prompted the appointment of Mark Simmonds as commercial finance director for Conviviality Retail.
He will join in March from pub group Mitchells & Butlers where he was director of financial planning and analysis.
He will report directly to Robinson. Andrew Humphreys continues in his role as chief financial officer for the overall group.
Hunter said Robinson brought “a significant track record of delivering results and has a wealth of experience in the retail industry”.
He was ideally placed to continue to develop and grow the retail business with Conviviality’s franchisees, she said.
Robinson said he looked forward to developing further opportunities and continuing to drive growth in the business.
“I am also excited to explore how the recently acquired Matthew Clark business can help us accelerate these aims as more and more synergies are realised,” he added.
During his time with Home Retail Group, Robinson was one of the architects of Argos’s “transformation plan” and led the implementation of its strategic, operational and financial plans.
Robinson was previously commercial director of Argos and before that, commercial director at Homebase. He has also worked in senior roles for Dixons Stores Group and run his own events management business for six years.
