Have you ever lost a sausage to barbecue embers or watched, helpless, as it rolled onto the ground? Well, Debbie and Andrew Keeble have the answer.
The founders of Debbie & Andrew’s sausages are launching a square sausage - called Fair and Square - under their new premium sausage brand, Heck.
The sausage - which resembles a burger after cooking - contains British pork, gluten-free breadcrumbs, herbs and seasoning. It is inspired by the lorne sausage - a favourite with Scottish consumers.
The shape meant it was less likely to slip off a barbecue grill than a standard cylindrical sausage and would make “the perfect sausage sandwich”, said a Heck spokeswoman. “The patties fit nicely between two slices of bread without needing cutting and without them escaping out of the sides.”
Heck does not currently have listings for Fair and Square, but the Keebles are in talks with several mults with a view to securing a launch in time for the summer.
The lorne sausage - sold in the mults as well as butchers’ shops in Scotland - is traditionally used as part of a cooked breakfast in Scotland.
