The temperature dropped to below freezing in some parts of the UK last night, but The Grocer recently experienced far worse when former MD of Del Monte UK, James Harvey, took a copy to the summit of Kilimanjaro.

Harvey climbed Africa’s highest mountain – standing at 19,340 ft in Tanzania – to raise money for the Nasio Trust, which helps HIV orphans and vulnerable children in Kenya.

“I made it to the top of Kilimanjaro which was an enriching experience for me but The Grocer got very heavy towards the end” Harvey told The Grocer.

During the trip, Harvey and his fellow climbers issued solar lamps and mosquito nets to children to enable them to continue studying after dark. “They don’t cost much, but they make the world of difference,” he said.

To date, Harvey has raised £1,173 but donations are still being accepted, via the following link: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/jamesharvey. Money raised will specifically go towards the construction of a new clinic.
