Goats dairy supplier Delamere Dairy is going up against soya heavyweight Alpro with an unexpected move into soya milk.
The company, which already supplies branded goats milk, butter and cheese, is launching a Delamere Dairy-branded soya milk at the end of the month. Available in two variants sweetened and unsweetened the milk will go into Asda on 24 October.
The milks contain added calcium and vitamin D, and are made from organically certified non-GM soya beans from growing areas that have not suffered tropical deforestation.
Accounts filed at Companies House this month show pre-tax profits at Delamere rose 18.5% to £633,000 last year on turnover up 0.8% to £15.2m. Although growth had been constrained by the economy, operating profit had continued to improve as a result of an efficiency drive, the directors said.
