Food delivery service Deliveroo has launched a 20-minute alcohol delivery service.
The company has partnered with eight London Majestic Wine stores, 20 BrewDog outlets across the country and more than 70 independent alcohol merchants including Honest Brew and Vagabond Wines in a bid to expand its service beyond food.
The alcohol service would work identically to its existing food proposition, Deliveroo said. Alcohol merchants will receive a tablet to process orders received through the Deliveroo app and nearby riders will collect the orders, to be delivered to customers in an average time of 20 minutes.
The launch of the service comes after Deliveroo trialled alcohol delivery in the spring, during which it reported “strong consumer demand”.
It said the new service would enable customers to order their “favourite craft beer, cocktails and wines”, which would create “the perfect accompaniment for their meals”.
Craft beer shop We Brought Beer - one of Deliveroo’s partners in the trial service among independents - said the launch would enable it to tap into a new customer base. “The way that customers search on Deliveroo, by postcode, means we are reaching a whole new audience of people on our doorstep that may only discover us through [the service],” said James Hickson, owner and MD. He said sales had grown week on week since partnering with Deliveroo three months ago.
Deliveroo has rapidly grown in popularity since launching in 2013, attracting £140m in investment and partnering with big names such as Jamie Oliver and Pizza Express.
